If you view the proposals online, one of the links is How this affects you. By entering your postcode and selecting the fourth option Stansted proposed western arrivals you can view a map showing how close your home is to the proposed stack and the red exit route.
You can also download a pdf version of the consultation document. For this area you need to download part E Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and NE Essex area. The document is 38 pages long, but the following information taken from the website is of particular interest:
-
Although there is a marked circuit showing the widest extent of the holding pattern, in reality holding aircraft may be seen anywhere within it. Aircraft may leave the stack at any point. This means that the whole area under and around the holding pattern will be affected. Aircraft can exit the stack at heights as low as 4000ft.
-
Villages under or near the P-RNAV red line which marks the exit route out of the stack will be significantly over flown and will be most affected by noise as aircraft leave the stack. The width of this exit route will be 3-4km.
-
Daytime hours for aircraft flying into Stansted are 6am and 11pm.
-
The noise of a plane flying at 4000ft is listed as almost 70 decibels which equates to a car driving at 40mph 23 feet away.
-
At peak times there could be on average of 33 planes per hour using the holding area.
-
At night time there could be on average 2.6 planes per hour.
Other points to consider
-
In a rural area aircraft noise will cause a far greater disturbance than in a built-up area where there is more background noise.
-
Residents under the current holding area for Stansted and Luton feel that their quality of life has been greatly reduced.
-
If a second runway is built at Stansted, the number of aircraft using the stack will increase
-
Even without the second runway, the number of passengers using Stansted is expected to increase.
I spent many hours looking for Blogs and phoning newspapers to find out what was happening when this change was announced. Further I wrote to my MP Richard Spring and contacted his office on what I needed to do, since no other information was available at the time – no response what so ever was forthcoming.
Now I thank you for the handouts that have pointed me to your site. I sincerely hope that your efforts are not to late and indeed your timing is right given teh labour parties hammering.
Im disgusted with this move, and to be frank I think its just another hammering by teh Labour party towards people who live in the Country.
I originate from Birmingham, and by living in that area I accepted that the noise from planes was part of every day life – so why should I moan. People who live in towns have the same amount of choices as anyone else. Live with it or get out.
